Packaging and Pharamceutical Industries Sharing Experiences
March 29, 2007
The first ever forum on packaging automation in the pharmaceutical industry is underway at this moment in Philadelphia. This sold-out event has brought together the leading pharmaceutical manufacturers with packaging machinery manufacturers, technology suppliers, consultatnts and government to explore packaging issues surrounding drugs, medical devices, biologics and combination devices.
It is apparant that this group is not accustomed to getting together. One speaker acknowledged as much in her opening comments. Several speakers have commented that they really don't know much about packaging. The distinctions between processing and packaging aren't as clear in pharmaceuticals as they may be in other consumer products areas.
This forum may be the beginning of some great opportunities to establish ongoing dialog between the packaging and pharmaceutical industries.

Keith, thank you for the report. I am working diligently on a pharma project with serialized 2D codes using our Ultijet on-line HP based printer. We have had tremendously good results and we see this opportunity exploding for this innovative product. Not bad for a US company.
